This is the time of year when the river, right outside your window, is in full force and the scene is fantastic. The hotel was unexpectedly deluxe and the food and staff really great. We took a pisco sour and a cerviche lesson given by...More

This may just be the nicest hotel I've stayed in - anywhere! It is a lovely hotel at the base of the mountain. Rooms are beautifully-appointed, beds are comfortable and we had a quiet and restful night's sleep. Service is outstanding as well. The hotel provides so many little extras. Our check-in included an invitation to sit on comfortable couches and enjoy a lemonade and small snack, while they came to us with an ipad to complete the check-in process. We left our room briefly to explore the area, and came back to find a beautifully arranged fruit tray waiting for us in our room. An attendant knocked on our door and asked us if we needed more towels (even though we had already been provided 2 per person), then offered us chocolates when we politely declined. Breakfast and dinner (with wine) were included in our overnight stay. Both were delicious. They even offered us a free cooking class, which we had no time for. (Machu Picchu awaited!) This was an outstanding hotel, definitely the best of the 5 hotels that we stayed in while traveling around Peru. More
Thank you Tania and Sumaq hotel. I was amazed at the service they provided. We arrived late after going straight from the train to a Machu Picchu citadel tour and were very tired.
Tania sent someone to buy our round trip bus tickets from MP Peublo (Aguas Calientes) to MP for the next day. We were so thankful! Also, I made the mistake of only printing my reservation for the hike the next day and not the entrance tickets, and she looked that up for us as well on the government website and had that printed for us.
The Hiram Bingham bus dropped us off in front of the hotel after the tour on the first day as this is a popular hotel for those on our train and tour. Sanctuary Lodge was sold out but we are so glad because Sumaq offered amazing customer service, clean rooms, friendly staff and easy access to bus stop to MP. I would prefer nicer amenities and better food at Sumaq than staying at the Sanctuary lodge, which we heard was bare bones. The spa at that hotel did not even have its own shower.
We had a river view room and complementary dinner. Also, at 5:30 am we had the breakfast buffet prior to leaving for our 6am Machu Picchu mountain hike. They provided us a take away box and we packed a sandwich for our hike. We brought the Gatorade and waters from the room. So convenient as we did not want to think about buying something so early in the morning.
Also, they send ahead your luggage to the train station, which is three blocks away (4 minute walk).
Thank you again Tania and Sumaq!
What a find! The service and attention was the best that I have had. The restaurant has a fine chef and everything served looks and tastes like it was prepared by a gourmet chef. The room was a suite which was clean and well supplied...More
