I had mixed feelings about the Sumaq Hotel. One of the major negatives was the inadequate Sound proofing in the rooms that really detracts from the accommodation experience - we were lucky to have a river view room - but we could still hear train at back of the hotel but river was like a river freeway - bring your earplugs - its really really really loud.
Food at dinner and breakfast was good and probably the best asset to the hotel. However the "complementary drink" is the tiniest Pisco Sour you will ever have...a message to Management - Either dont offer a free drink or dont be stingy.
Wifi was very weak in our room also. And no AC either - we had to ask for a fan.
In hind-sight - i would have preferred to have 5 nights at Palacio del Inka in Cusco and made my Machu Picchu day a long day ..its easy enough to get a early train up and a late train back. much better standard hotel and better value. More
The travel agency booked us in this hotel. We are so pleased she did. First, we were met at the train station and our bags were taken to the hotel. Our private tour guide walked with us to the hotel while we waited for the...More
This hotel being a 5 star we were there for 2 nights we were promised a pick up from the train station that never happened and had to find our way ourselves.
We arrived at the hotel had to wait for our room was then assigned the room which was very nice however the kitchen cooking smell seemed like it was coming through our vents
Wifi not working in the room and the train track were just out side our window and we could hear the thunder of each train passing through.
We also were quite disappointed with the service of just buying water from them as called and asked to get water but no one came. Even when I went Dow to the bar to get the bar tender was reluctant to sell me water.
On the positive the breakfast and dinner service was very good.
Would we return or recommend this hotel maybe not unless they improve on these aspect.
7 minute walk from the railway station, located on the bus route to Machu Pichu.
Nice welcome drink & nibblies on arrival. Breaky & dinner was included which was great. Free WiFi, although I had trouble logging in on my phone in my room. It worked well in the dining room & reception. Hubby didn't have a prob logging in with his laptop.
Room was on the ground floor facing the road and the river flowing past.
I found with the noise of the river & busses running constantly during the day & I had a problem hearing the TV with the volume up high. Closed the door & curtains, problem fixed.
Porter collected our bags from the train station & dropped them back on departure
While in Peru my boyfriend and I decided to stay in Aguas Calientes to maximize our time near Machu Picchu. We couldn’t have asked for a better hotel. A bit of a splurge but worth it. Our breakfast, cocktails, and dinner were all included in our stay. The staff was super friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to lend a helping hand. We even learned how to make pisco sours and ceviche before checking out. We cannot wait to go back and stay again!!
